To pursue, promote and protect the interests of motorcyclists; to develop better and more enthusiastic relations between the general public, the media and the operators and riders of motorcycles; to encourage rider participation in events; to promote motorcycle safety and camaraderie among members; to promote organized events; and in general, perform them in a lawful manner.
The STAR Charter, an agreement between STAR International and every local STAR Chapter, is a document which includes all of the guidelines for STAR Touring and it's Chapters. It's read to the Chapter each year, is available for Chapter members to review at meetings and can be reviewed with a Shephard for new members.
Chapters may develop and approve By-Laws which apply to local Chapter members as long as they don't violate the International Charter.
Local STAR entities Chartered by STAR Touring International with Chapter members, Officers, etc. responsible for the day to day operations of their organization and which coordinate at the State, Regiona and National levels.
Elections for Chapter Offices are held in December with the participation of members in good standing (secret ballot). Following the election of the President and Vice President the President will appoint the STAR Vet, LOS and Tin STAR representative.
The President is a National Officer of STAR Touring and Riding Association and will represent STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner. The President shall insure compliance of the STAR Charter by all members. Shall exercise general supervision over the members of the Chapter, the Chapter’s Board of Trustees, and the affairs of the Chapter. Shall have the authority to make day-to-day decisions concerning the operations of the Chapter and report those decisions to the membership. Shall maintain a working relationship with all supporting dealerships. Shall represent the Chapter in any involvements with other riding groups and organizations. Shall be point of contact for all members in communicating with STAR International, i.e., National President and National Officers.
Shall stand in for and hold the responsibilities of the President in his/her absence. Shall work with all committee chairs to coordinate and inform board of committee progress. Shall work with the President, as directed, as a liaison with any supporting dealerships. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Sergeant At Arms:
Shall be present at all meetings to keep and maintain order. Shall be responsible for making sure that all Ride Waivers are signed prior to any ride; and take responsibility for the Ride Waivers during all rides. Shall enforce the Charter and Bylaws as written. Shall be responsible for keeping the banner and making sure it is hung at all meetings and events. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
LOS (Ladies of the Star) Representative:
Shall work to make all women, either rider or passenger, feel welcome as a member of the Chapter. Shall coordinate with the National LOS Director for support. Shall work within the Chapter to help advance the image of women in motorcycling. The LOS Representative is the publicity representative and will represent all women riders and enthusiasts to all local media and in general handle all communications pertaining to the LOS Chapter membership as directed by the President. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Shall plan the rides and be sure that all rides are pre-ridden to ensure safety on the route. The Road Captain is in charge of the ride and will lead all rides. No rides will be ridden over the posted speed limit to ensure the safety of all the participants in the ride. The Road Captain works closely with the Tail Gunner to help control the group formation. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Shall ride in the back of the group and keep an eye on the group. It is the duty of the Tail Gunner to stay with any bike that has dropped off the ride due to mechanical or personal problems so the group can safely continue. The Tail Gunner works closely with the Road Captain to help control the group formation. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Shall have 3 years minimum riding experience. The Shepherd shall greet all new riders into the group. It is the responsibility of the Shepherd to explain to new or prospective members about STAR Touring and Riding Association’s mission statement, Charters, Bylaws, waivers, and ride rules It is also the Shepherd’s responsibility to make all new or prospective members feel welcome in the group. The Shepherd shall be paired up [at a minimum] for the first 2-3 rides and/or meetings to ensure that new or prospective members do not feel left out. They should also be available to explain and/or answer questions regarding the Chapter or STAR International. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Shall keep minutes of all meetings; including Officer meetings, Board of Trustee meetings, and general membership meetings. Shall conduct a roll call of members at all general meetings. Shall be sure that all members sign in on a roster for all Chapter rides. Shall make sure that all members have signed a waiver for the current year. Shall make sure that all pertinent e-mails are forwarded to the membership. Shall make all general membership meeting minutes available to members of the Chapter, State Directors, and Regional Directors. Shall be responsible for emailing monthly meeting minutes to State and Regional Directors for the Chapter. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
Shall maintain a bookkeeping system for the funds of the Chapter. Shall make a monthly financial report to the Board of Trustees at any board meetings and to the membership at each general meeting. Shall oversee all sales of merchandise, i.e. t-shirts, patches etc. Shall place all orders and collect all monies for items purchased from STAR Touring and Riding International office, i.e. back patches, rockers, both the large rocker, and any small rocker. Shall coordinate and collect funds during all 50/50 raffles. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner.
The purpose of "Tin Star" is to allow Star Touring to identify a team of volunteers in time of need. The Tin Star readily identifies which of our members have volunteered to help when needed, and are qualified as one of the following: Physician, Nurse, Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Paramedic, Emergency Medical Technician, Search & Rescue or other special emergency training.
Star Vets Representative:
Shall encourage all veterans to join Star Vets. Shall work to bring information to the Chapter on Veterans’ events. Shall encourage participation in parades, stand-downs, and other functions that are made to honor all of our Veterans past and present. The Star Vets Representative is the publicity representative and will represent all Star Vet riders and enthusiasts to all local media and in general handle all communications pertaining to the Star Vet Chapter membership. Shall represent the Chapter and STAR Touring and Riding in a positive and professional manner. If you served in the armed services please fill out a STAR VETS application.
Responsible for coordinating efforts around Chapter Members well being and other life altering events. The Good Samaritan will maintain a list of Chapter members birthdays, coordinate best wishes efforts for significant member events (births, weddings, etc.) and well wishes for sick or injured Chapter members or their family. The Good Samaritan(s) is an appointed position.
Shall maintain the chapter website and associated web presence engines, report the status of the chapter website at monthly chapter meetings, will solicit and accept from Officers and Representatives suitable (appropriate, timely, etc.) content for posting on the chapter website. The Webmaster is an appointed position.
Responsible for accepting suggestions for, proposing and arranging logistics for Chapter rides. The Ride Committee meets regularly, generally following chapter meetings, to discuss upcoming rides and events. Road Captains and Tail Gunners, Saftey Committee members are generally in attendance in order to keep the number of meetings at a minimum and ensure that all Committees involved in ride logistics and saftey are well informed and involved.
Cruizin for Kids:
Responsible for organizing the annual VFStars 326 Charity event and ride held every year in order to raise money for local charities. Cruzin for kids is entering it's 4th year and in 2008 raised over $6,000 for Fred's Footsteps.
Organized by the Saftey Director this committee is responsible for reviewing Chapter ride saftey and response, proposing and organizing events and training as approved by the Chapter and it's Officers.
